Emeralds are one of the oldest mined gemstones, first mined in Egypt around 7000 BC near the Red Sea, often called “Cleopatra’s Mines”. To the ancient Egyptians, green was the colour of fertility, rebirth, and eternal youth. Emeralds embodied these ideals and were considered a direct link to immortality and regeneration. They often carved emeralds into protective amulets like the scarab beetle, representing the cycle of life.
